An Irish teacher was stabbed to death outside of a Paris school Wednesday and a Pakistani man was reportedly detained in connection with the murder. John Dowling was stabbed outside the Pôle Universitaire Léonard de Vinci, the BBC reported. The 66-year-old teacher had worked at the private school since 1999 as an English teacher. The name of the 37-year-old Pakistani citizen detained in connection with the attack wasn't immediately released. Dowling was slated to retire at the end of the school year, the media outlet reported. Le Parisien reported Dowling was seen speaking to the Pakistani man before he was attacked. FRANCE’S MACRON SCRAPS FUEL TAX RISE AMID FEARS OF MORE PROTESTS, VIOLENCE The school released a statement saying faculty and staff were “shocked and saddened” by Dowling’s death and counseling is being offered to anyone affected by the murder. The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs said it was aware of Dowling’s death and was providing assistance.
