Sultan’s Journey: A Story of Loyalty and Cleverness
This story follows Sultan, an old dog who proves that even when we grow old, being a good friend is the most important thing of all.
1. Meet the Characters
To understand Sultan's adventure, let's meet the characters in his world.
Character Name | Role in the Story | Key Trait |
Sultan | An old, toothless sheepdog | Always Loyal |
The Shepherd | Sultan's master | Forgetful of old friends |
The Wolf | Sultan's friend from the forest | Clever and Sly |
The Cat | Sultan’s only other friend | Small but Brave |
At the start of the story, Sultan has a big problem. He has grown old and has no teeth left. Because of this, the Shepherd thinks Sultan is no longer useful for guarding the sheep. The Shepherd decides to "put him down" the very next day. Sultan is very sad because his master has forgotten all his years of hard work.
Sultan knows he must find a way to change his master's mind, so he goes to the forest to find help from a surprising friend.
2. The Clever Plan: From "No Good" to "Hero"
To save his life, Sultan visits the Wolf. The Wolf comes up with a make-believe plan to make Sultan look like a hero.
- The Distraction: The Shepherd and his wife leave their baby on the ground while they work in the field.
- The Snatch: The Wolf pretends to grab the baby and run away.
- The Rescue: Sultan chases the Wolf and "saves" the baby, bringing the child back safely.
Action and Outcome
- Cause: Sultan "rescues" the baby from the Wolf.
- Effect: The Shepherd sees Sultan as a hero. He rewards him with a soft cushion and yummy food.
Why this mattered
This plan was necessary for Sultan to stay alive. It changed his life completely! Instead of being sent away, Sultan became an honored hero. He was promised that he would be loved and cared for for the rest of his life.
Sultan’s life became very comfortable, but the peace did not last long because the Wolf came back to ask for a favor.
3. The Turning Point: Choosing Loyalty
The Wolf helped Sultan, and now he thought Sultan should help him back. He wanted to steal one of the Shepherd's sheep.
The Wolf's Expectation: He thought Sultan would let him steal a sheep as a "thank you" for the baby plan.
Sultan's Reaction: Sultan said "Never!" He stayed true to his master even though the Wolf had helped him.
Sultan took strong action to keep the sheep safe:
- The Wolf’s Demand: The Wolf told Sultan he was going to steal a sheep that night.
- Sultan’s Warning: Sultan told the Shepherd to watch out because the Wolf was coming to the barn.
- The Shepherd’s Response: When the Wolf showed up, the Shepherd was waiting and gave him a big WHACK!
The Wolf was very angry that his plan failed, so he challenged Sultan to a fight.
4. The Final Showdown: A Funny Misunderstanding
Sultan went to the fight with his only friend, the Shepherd's old cat. The cat had only three legs, and as they walked, the Wolf and his sidekick, the Wild Boar, got very scared by mistake!
What the Wolf and Boar Saw | What was actually happening |
They thought the Cat had a sword. | The Cat just had her tail sticking straight up in the air. |
They thought the Cat was picking up rocks to throw at them. | The Cat was just hobbling because she only had three legs. |
The fight ended in a silly way. The Cat saw the Boar’s ear moving behind a bush. She thought it was a mouse and jumped on it! The Boar was so scared that he ran away and yelled that the Wolf was hiding in a tree. When Sultan and the Cat looked up and saw how scared the Wolf was, they all started to laugh.
Because of this silliness, the characters stopped being angry and decided to be peaceful.
5. The Big Lesson: Why Loyalty Matters
The story of Sultan teaches us an important lesson about staying true to our friends.
The Moral: Loyalty may grow old, but it never grows weak.
Sultan showed he was a great friend in two ways:
- Using His Wits: He used a clever trick to show the Shepherd he was still a brave protector.
- The True Test of Loyalty: Even when it was hard, he refused to let the Wolf steal from his master. He proved that being honest is more important than a "thank you" to a sneaky friend.
By being a good friend and standing his ground, Sultan finally brought peace. The Wolf promised to never mess with the sheep again, and Sultan got to live the rest of his life as a happy and loyal hero.
